So, I have dropped out of pretty much all fandoms at this time as I focus my efforts almost entirely on my novel series, which is coming along very nicely. I am sorry if the fact of this new existence is bothering anybody, as I know I have unfinished fics on FF.Net that people have been bothering me to finish. They will remain there for reading pleasure, but unless I get a sudden bout of inspiration, they likely will never be completed.

Now, moving on, I have been searching for spyware-free game music downloads and found the KHInside website. However, whenever I attempt to download a file, it always says that it is "unavailable" no matter which song and/or album I choose. Mobile downloads work, but that doesn't help me because they're ringtones. Anybody know what is going on there?

Also, if anybody hasn't noticed, if you have a deviantArt account, I encourage you to go look at my newest artwork there. I haven't been able to get to a computer that has Photoshop for a while, so you might not see new space artwork for a little while, but I have been heavily inspired and wish to continue that tangent.

So there you have it. I hope everyone is having a fantastic New Year 2009 and am looking forward to hearing from you guys again! My last post was in November, after all, so I'd like to hear how it is going. Ciao!

Nothing that big to mention here, just a few things to keep you guys up to speed.

1) So, we discovered the source of my computer problems: the hard drive. Somehow, in one way or another, the drive has become damaged or unstable. In order for it to load the OS properly, one must continually tap on the laptop case in order to keep it going. A theory is that the pin used to read the information has potentially cut a groove that it cannot rise out of easily. I am not going to put up with it anymore: next computer I get is going to have an SSD (solid-state drive).

2) After being out of the Aliens fandom for a long time, I have finally regained my groove. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, I have become addicted to Tomb Raider all over again. I've been following the updates on the new game, Underworld, since I first heard about it last year. It has a November 18 release, just so you know. Anyway, in that tangent, in a weird sort of way, Vasquez is kind of like a cross between her original character and Lara now. I don't know if that's good or bad yet, we'll have to see.

In that TR/Aliens tangent, the story is less science fiction-y, somewhat, and more like I originally intended: adventure. Because we're going through and discovering things that no one was supposed to know, from Pilot ruins to things Weyland-Yutani had intended to keep hidden indefinitely, which includes Tomorrow's Truth, I decided that Tomb Raider was perfect inspiration.

So if I ever decide to build an ambient soundtrack for it, don't be surprised if it's more Gaelic and classical than like Horner's score.

3) I've finally gotten past my writer's block and started writing a novel. It probably won't be finished for some time, that is if I want a quality product, but you can expect that it will be at least decent.

So, comment this journal. Get me back. Show me some love, peoples. I'll appreciate it, and comments help my muse, which helps my writer's block, which helps my novel-writing, which in turn gets me to start working on Solar Winds again.

I just wanted to mention... the new single by Christina Milian entitled "Us Against the World" really really really really really really x1000 totally suits H/V. I mean, just go listen to it and consider the lyrics. Could a song get much more perfect unless it was recorded specifically for them?

I like in the chorus when they mention going to war, because it's just so fitting.

Also wanted to mention a single fic I am going to write. It's part of the reason why I'm kind of stuck behind Solar Winds, because it's kind of important to the Broken Dawn saga (yeah, it went from being Shadows of Twilight to Broken Dawn).

Another thing I wanted to mention is that I added a (somewhat disturbing) twist to their relationship via their ethnic backgrounds. I mean, it may be the 22nd century, but nobody's forgotten about the Holocaust or anything.

If you have issues with Holocaust mentions, stop reading.

Okay, well, considering I think Vasquez is Catholic, and Hudson is a German descendant, well... that's where it comes from. What do you think? I can explain further.

Yes. I'm on a hiatus.

My life has been pretty much all Hell lately. I've been trying to work on my novel, Solar Winds, a bunch of graphics, work, and some other things. Then my computer stopped working. I hit a roadblock with Solar Winds. The graphics were on the computer that stopped working. My work is going really slow. My friendship with my best friend is beginning to fail, too. I am exhausted and can't even hardly think straight.

Look, I want to finish Solar Winds, honestly I do. But I have so much on my plate right now that I just can't seem to fit it in.

I will return when I have time.

For several years now, I have been wondering about the parallels between Halo and Aliens. I mean, it's pretty obvious already, but the more I look into these two franchises, the more I begin to see similarities. Because I have nowhere else to put it, I'll put it here and hope that some of you will respond.

Below, I have a discussion about them, as well as some parallels I have drawn for the sake of Solar Winds.

So don't hate me for this post, you guys. I'm only stating the facts, honest.

Ever since I was little, I was always an admirer of the USMC. I used to put 'Semper Fi' on my school binders without really knowing what it meant. Then, one day, being the Wikipedia guru I am, I looked up 'Semper Fidelis' and discovered that it is Latin for 'Always Faithful'.

Being such a sucker for H/V, I began stamping it on a lot of the H/V graphics I've made, a couple of which are located below. 'Semper Fidelis/Fi: mein Held, mein Herz' deals with their relationship so well because literally translated (Latin and German together), it means 'Always faithful to my hero, my heart'. Makes sense now, don't it?

I found this thread on IMDb called "You know you've watched Aliens too much when..." and have been reading it since the weekend. The sad thing is, I've actually done a lot of that stuff before (repeating lines using Hudson's voice is fun, because I can pull it off real well). I found one reply that said, "You get into an elevator and yell, 'We're on an express elevator to Hell, goin' down!'" I'm so gonna do that the next time I get into an elevator. Maybe I can freak some people out or something...

Anyway, in perusing the threads, I came across this little gem by ugyenpeljor: -You think that Alien: Ressurection would be a better movie if they ressurected Private Hudson as a human/Xenomorph hybrid instead of Ripley (read it here).

...Ahem.

I actually mulled over that idea a few years back.

And I think Resurrection would work better if it were him. Then again, I think resurrecting Frost as a human/Alien hybrid would have been better! And also maybe actually keeping with canon a little bit, too...

AND I finally got to watch Weird Science yesterday, and keep randomly going up to people and saying, "how about a nice, greasy pork sandwhich in a dirty ashtray?" Dude, it's just so nasty that it's funny. Bill steals every single scene he's in, I swear...

And to clear something up: Solar Winds isn't about blood and action like a lot of other Aliens/Predator fics. It's about what I've been dealing with while watching both Aliens and Predator 2 lately: the characters and how they relate to each other (literally, in some cases). So although there will be some serious action next chapter, the focus is going to be on the characters and the situations I torture them with.

Speaking of which, this next chapter is one everyone's been waiting for.

And THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH chickensarefast for informing me about the color of Bill's eyes. I guess neither Ferro nor Vasquez was right... meep.

I'm serious about this question, no matter how lame you guys may think it is!

What, exactly, is the color of Bill's eyes?

I had plot bunnies out of this question where Ferro and Vasquez get into an arguement over Hudson's eye color. Ferro insists that they're 'gunmetal gray', and Vasquez says that they're 'blue-hazel'. They settle on a midlevel: 'steel blue with a hint of green'.

So that's the three things I've narrowed it down to. They change colors depending on the light, so it gets me confused.

I need to know before I finish Solar Wind's next chapter for a very good reason.

Who else knew that Bill Paxton could sing?

No, seriously. He can sing. His solos in the two major hits of the Martini Ranch duo - Reach and How Can the Laboring Man - are actually really good. Of course, his bro is pretty good too, but this is amazing. I can't find a download of either song, unfortunately, so I put it on my MySpace profile (yes, MR has it's own page).

Now I can't stop listening to this song and Party All the Time. Somehow, these two go really well together. Ah, how I love 80s synthpop - the sounds of an era long past.

But this man can sing. Seriously. Not much vocal range, I'll admit, but he can SIIIIIING.

Um, on another hand... I found two songs, one female and one male, that befit the Jerry/Leona relationship. One is "Run It!" by Chris Brown; the other is "Last Name" by Carrie Underwood. They just fit so well. Listen to them if you don't believe me.

Anyways, just thought I'd drop that on everyone's plate.

All right, this is my big update. All right peeps, some of you have read my newest fic, "Aliens: Solar Winds". Well, you might have already noticed references to other, similar films in each chapter. They're very subtle and usually not easily recognized by non-fans.

I've made a deal. In each chapter, beginning with the actual first chapter - Chapter 2 - I have included references to other films and/or games. Don't worry, the list is below. Not all will be references in each chapter, so keep a good watch.
